In Small Unit, SEIU Loses Big To Rival NUHW

From Michigan, the SEIU was ousted from representing medical techinicians…significantly.

Hackley Hospital medical technicians voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to switch their union allegiance to the California-based National Union of Healthcare Workers.

The union representation vote through the National Labor Relations Board was 65 votes for the NUHW, nine votes for the current SEIU Healthcare Michigan and two votes for “no union,” NUHW officials report.

This is the second labor group outside of California to move away from the SEIU and to the NUHW, union officials said. In September, a group of workers from the Luther Manor Nursing Home in Saginaw chose the NUHW over the SEIU, they said.
