Marxists Marching on May Day: Revolutionary Youth call for May Day celebrations in Tahrir

April 24th 2011   ·   0 Comments

May Day, the worldwide Marxist version of Labor Day will be occurring later this week. In Egypt, the “Union of Revolutionary Youth” are getting their noisemakers ready to join in on the fun and sounding oddly similar to their brothers in solidarity(!) in Wisconsin…

The Union of Revolutionary Youth called for celebrating Labor Day in Tahrir Square on 1 May. They suggested that festivities be held from 3 pm to 8 pm and urged workers, labor leaders, heads of independent trade unions, artists, poets and public figures to participate in the celebration.

In a statement published Saturday, the union highlighted the key role played by Egyptian labor in the 25 January revolution when they announced a general strike before former President Hosni Mubarak stepped down.

Emphasizing that the revolution’s motto was “Change, freedom and social justice”, the union also said social and economic demands, along with demands for democratic transformation, represent a priority.

They’re all just one big, happy party.
