BREAKING: UAW’s King Admits Union Will Fall Without Foreign Transplants

January 18th 2011   ·   1 Comment

After all the hyperbole pouring out from the UAW about “fair elections” and companies being “human rights violators” unless they agree to the UAW’s campaign to unionize them, the UAW’s Bob King finally admitted the truth.

According to the Detroit News [emphasis added]:

United Auto Workers President Bob King told members tonight the union’s very survival is at stake in its efforts to organize foreign workers — and said it has limited options in contract talks with Detroit’s Big Three.

If we don’t organize these transnationals, I don’t think there’s a long term future for the UAW — I really don’t,” King told more than 1,000 members and retirees at the opening of a four-day political action conference in Washington.

So, the campaign to unionize the workers at the foreign automakers isn’t really about helping those workers, Mr. King? It’s more about saving the UAW, isn’t it?

It appears the UAW needs those workers more than those workers need the UAW.

Call the M&A people in, because there’s probably going to be some shopping for a union merger going on in the AFL-CIO’s hallways sometime soon.

Only an idiot would vote for a union in today’s global marketplace. Pay dues for nothing in return.
