A 70-year-old former union official was sentenced today to a year in federal prison and ordered to make full restitution for embezzling more than $90,000 from a Barstow-based electrical workers union, according to U.S. Attorney’s officials.
Jimmie Leo Miles “besmirched the union” by stealing funds for nothing “other than a desire for money,” U.S. District Judge Virginia A. Phillips said during this morning’s hearing in Riverside.
The Barstow resident pleaded guilty in June to one count of embezzling union funds and one count of filing a false federal income tax that failed to report the embezzled money as income.
